A range of events Nov. 11 to 15 for Graduate Studies Week will celebrate and showcase opportunities in the college’s graduate programs.

The campus community is invited to learn what graduate students and faculty are doing, meet with Dean Kristen Eichhorn and other staff, and much more. Events include:

Monday, Nov. 11:

  • Veterans Day Open House Tabling For Undergraduates, starting at 10 a.m., Marano Campus Center arena: Attendees can learn more about five-year programs, the Bachelor PLUS program, and information on the benefits of staying at SUNY Oswego for their graduate degrees.
  • Grad-itude Project, noon to 2 p.m., Marano Campus Center concourse: All students are invited to learn more about the benefits of expressing gratitude and can write a brief note of appreciation to anyone who has inspired their academic journey. Postcards and postage will be provided.

Tuesday, Nov. 12:

  • Graduate Studies Pop-Up, 10 a.m. to noon, Marano Campus Center concourse: Anybody with questions about graduate school can meet with counselor Sharon Griffin to learn about applying, admissions, funding and more.
  • Pizza with the Dean, 5 to 6:30 p.m., SUNY Oswego’s Syracuse campus: Dean Eichhorn will host a session with pizza celebrating graduate programs and sharing more information on what Oswego has to offer.

Wednesday, Nov. 13:

  • Graduate Student Appreciation Day Ice Cream Social, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., Marano Campus Center Chu Atrium: A celebration of all current graduate students, with complimentary ice cream and light refreshments.
  • Is Graduate School for Me? Graduate Studies Information Session, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., 133 Marano Campus Center: A student panel of current graduate students will examine the advantages of completing a SUNY Oswego graduate program and discuss the “lessons learned” through their personal experience. Pizza will be provided.
  • Also Wednesday, the Diversity Graduate Fellows Luncheon (by invitation) will honor the current graduate students who have been selected as Diversity Graduate Fellows program for the 2019-2020 academic year.

Thursday, Nov. 14: 

  • Coffee with the Graduate Dean: Feedback Wanted!, 1 to 2:30 p.m. in Penfield Library’s Lake Effect Cafe: Students are invited to join Dean Eichhorn for coffee, and share their experiences and ideas.
  • 3-Minute Faculty, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m, Marano Campus Center auditorium (room 132): This fast-moving competition celebrates exciting research done by SUNY Oswego faculty. In three minutes or less, faculty are asked to discuss a specific research or creative project by utilizing only one static PowerPoint slide. For the contest, $500 in travel support will be awarded, and all audience members will determine a winner through a live vote. Registration for this event can be made at oswego.edu/gradstudies.

Friday, Nov. 15:

  • Graduate Studies Reception, 2 to 4 p.m., Sheldon Hall ballroom: The ultimate Graduate Studies Happy Hour will include live music, food and wine — and feature the Outstanding Graduate Student Awards and Outstanding Mentor Awards.
