The SUNY Oswego Art and Design Department is excited to announce the installation of a 2D outdoor mural on the north-facing wall of Tyler Hall, a project aiming to foster a spirit of positivity and enhance the campus environment, with a reception featuring the unveiling of the mural and celebration of its completion from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25.
This semi-permanent project will not only uplift the space, previously occupied by a bulletin board with health and safety concerns, but also align with campus-wide initiatives to create a welcoming atmosphere for students, organizers said.
The mural will feature designs created by current graduate and undergraduate students, highlighting their artistic talents while encouraging community engagement and involvement.
"We believe that art has the power to uplift and inspire," said Danny Rafferty, a graduate student and the project manager. "This mural will not only create a safer and more inviting environment but will also celebrate the creativity of our student body."
The mural installation is part of SUNY Oswego’s ongoing commitment to improving campus life and fostering a sense of belonging for all students. The initiative is expected to bring numerous benefits to the entire campus community, reinforcing a culture of positivity and collaboration.
After the 5 p.m. Oct. 25 unveiling, organizers will have the reception inside Tyler Hall in the second-floor Corner Gallery. This is a free event open to everyone. Attendees can help celebrate the mural, talk with the artists and see a video on the process.
