Dear Members of the Campus Community,

I would like to take this opportunity to make you aware of organizational changes made within the Division of Administration & Finance as a result of restructuring in the areas of Finance and Budget.

Becky Waters (’01, M’02) has been appointed assistant vice president for financial operations, overseeing the accounting, accounts payable, budget, purchasing and student accounts operations on campus. “I am excited to lead this great team we have cultivated over the past decade in the Finance Office,” said Waters. “We have a strong group that is dedicated to supporting the campus communities’ financial operation needs, increasing efficiencies and serving as resources to the campus on financial related matters.”

Waters is an alumnus of SUNY Oswego’s School of Business five-year accounting program, earning a bachelor’s degree in accounting along with her MBA. Upon graduation, she worked for Ernst and Young as an auditor in public accounting. In 2011, she returned to SUNY Oswego as the director of accounting and payables, learning the many facets of the finance office, fund accounting, and financial operations of the State of New York.

Shawn Nies (’12, ’15) has been appointed director of budget and financial reporting, overseeing budget administration of all state financial resources, and supporting the larger SUNY community as a member of the executive committee to the accounting, budget and bursar group. “I’m humbled to have achieved this role,” said Nies. “This community is special and our institution is premier. We must continually invest and renew our commitment to all students and their successes –- and I’m so excited to support these ideals through sound financial management and advocacy.”

Originally from Buffalo, Nies is an alumnus having earned both a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and an MBA at SUNY Oswego. As an undergrad, he served as a resident mentor engaging first-year students. He also worked in Accounts Payable as an undergrad, and in Finance & Budget as a graduate assistant, before transitioning to full-time employment as a budget analyst and, most recently, a senior budget analyst.

Lisa Vinciguerra (’00) has been appointed director of student accounts, overseeing billing procedures as well as collection of tuition, fees, loans, grants, scholarships, room and board. “It is my goal to foster a student-focused, student-centric approach,” stated Vinciguerra. “Ensuring clear, concise and effective customer service for students, parents and internal colleagues is my number one priority.”

Vinciguerra earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from SUNY Oswego and began her campus career here over 24 years ago as an undergraduate student employee. She worked on campus as a calculations clerk upon graduation, eventually rising to the position of assistant director of student accounts. Most recently, she served as interim director of student accounts, working closely and strategically with other campus constituencies to maintain financial accuracy of student data and propose collaborative efforts to implement best practices.

Lisa Sassone ('11, '21) has been appointed assistant director of student accounts, helping students and their families navigate ways to finance their higher education goals. "I look forward to enhancing the college experience for the SUNY Oswego student body while also engaging with and learning from them,” said Sassone. “Everyone's financial journey is different, and I'm honored to be part of a Student Accounts team that is truly committed to the success of our students."

Sassone began her career at KeyBank. After earning her bachelor’s degree in business administration from SUNY Oswego, she was selected for their management associate program. As a district operations manager, she was responsible for oversight of 80-100 employees and managed 16 different branches. In 2019, she joined SUNY Oswego’s Student Accounts Office as a third-party billing coordinator while also earning her MBA to expand her knowledge and further improve the Student Accounts experience for the student population.

Please join me in congratulating these well-deserving employees on their latest appointments.

Sincerely,

Victoria L. Furlong
Vice President for Administration and Finance
