Once again, SUNY Oswego seeks to recognize its outstanding students through the Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence, the highest honor bestowed upon a student by the State University of New York. Last year, 210 students from 64 campuses were recognized and four were SUNY Oswego students.

The college seeks nominations of students who have integrated academic excellence with other aspects of their lives, which may include leadership, campus involvement, community service, the arts, athletics or career achievement. These students may have already received recognition from campus, local, state, national or international organizations, and nominators should include that information in the nomination process. Please also note that only those students graduating between June 2019 and May 2020 are eligible to be nominated for this year’s Chancellor’s Award.

This year, our campus may nominate a total of five students. Please submit your nominations electronically no later than Friday, Dec. 27. Nominators are encouraged to provide a letter of support to accompany their nomination. Letters of support may be emailed to michele.may@oswego.edu. Each nominee will be invited to submit a packet of information about themselves as well.

According to SUNY guidelines, a campus-wide selection committee will review all nominations and select campus nominees to recommend to President Deborah F. Stanley. Oswego nominees will be submitted to System Administration where a SUNY-wide selection committee will select the final recipients.

The Chancellor’s Awards will be presented to the student recipients at a ceremony on Wednesday, April 22, 2020, in Albany. Please take the time to nominate those students whom you think might be worthy of this statewide, prestigious recognition. Your recognition of their efforts and achievements is always considered by recipients as an honor in itself and bolsters our students' self-confidence and perceptions of their ability.
