SUNY Oswego is recruiting mentors for a partnership with the New York State Mentor Program and Leighton Elementary School in Oswego.

This program builds one-to-one supportive relationships between adult mentors and student mentees who are at risk of dropping out of school. For one hour each week, mentors and mentees engage in mentee-driven activities planned by the school on-site coordinator.

The first program is Wednesday, Nov. 28 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and will run each Wednesday, following Leighton Elementary’s calendar, until late May/early June. Mentors must be able to commit to every Wednesday. A one hour training for new mentors is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 27, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Students, faculty and staff interested in learning more about the program or applying can contact Catherine Farrell at Catherine.Farrell@oswego.edu.
