Mindful Yoga with Steven, Fridays at 4 p.m. in 302 Lee Hall, is a new offering to wind down the week.

The weekly sessions led by Steven York of the theatre department offer a three-part restorative practice focused on body/mind/breath awareness, mindful movement and appreciation of the present moment. Each of the three sections last approximately 15 to 20 minutes. Latecomers are welcome to join at anytime during the first 30 to 40 minutes.

Section 1 is a rotating guided group exercise such as visualization, aromatherapy, pranayama (breathing exercise), self-massage, sound therapy and more.

Section 2 is restorative asana practice utilizing vinyasa and yin style yoga poses to guide the body into loosening and aligning.

Section 3 is an extended savasana/meditation to encourage self-compassion, active presence and mindful awareness of the present.

No previous experience is necessary. Classes are free and no gym membership is required.
