SUNY Oswego's MLK Day Committee is proud to share the details for this year’s commemorative events, focusing on celebration, reflection and community action.
The annual campus celebration will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, in the Hewitt Hall ballroom.
The program's theme this year is "Moving the Dream Forward: Music Through the Movement." The evening is structured to blend academic insight with cultural performance, ensuring a meaningful experience for all attendees.
The celebration will feature James Dekle of Purdue University as keynote speaker, with a cultural festival included. Attendees can enjoy performances by the Syracuse Gospel Choir, as well as student, faculty, and staff talent from the SUNY Oswego community.
This event presents a valuable opportunity to reflect on Dr. King’s enduring vision and the ongoing work needed to advance it.
Day of Service
To honor King’s commitment to direct action and community support, the campus community is invited to participate in the Day of Service from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7. Please register to volunteer as an individual or student organization using this link.
Participants will engage in service activities benefiting partners in the Oswego and Syracuse communities. This is a tangible opportunity to dedicate time to the principles of service and justice that King championed. If you are aware of any local organizations, please share this opportunity with them using this signup link.
Organizers encourage you to mark these dates and participate in both the reflective celebration and the community action initiatives.
Sincerely,
The MLK Day Committee, SUNY Oswego
