The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is seeking faculty members interested in athletics to serve as our Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR).

The position description can be requested by contacting Wendy McManus, assistant vice president for student affairs/director of Intercollegiate Athletics via email, wendy.mcmanus@oswego.edu, by May 3, 2024.

The role of the FAR

The FAR is an NCAA-mandated position appointed by and reporting directly to President Peter O. Nwosu. The FAR is one of five university representatives authorized to directly contact the NCAA. Reflecting NCAA's philosophy statement, the Faculty Athletic Representative will have a strong commitment to supporting the NCAA Division III philosophy, especially seeking “to establish and maintain an environment in which a student-athlete’s athletics activities are conducted as an integral part of the student-athletes educational experience, and an environment that values cultural diversity and gender equity among their student-athletes and athletics staff.”

The FAR plays a key role in the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and the broader campus community. Situated within the Division of Student Affairs, Intercollegiate Athletics at SUNY Oswego seeks, through the administration of 24 intercollegiate varsity sports, to advance the university’s overall mission by preparing student-athletes to be leaders who live ethical and meaningful lives and build a better world as successful SUNY Oswego graduates.
