Health Services is organizing a "Vegas-themed" Get Yourself Tested (GYT) event for SUNY Oswego students this month, encouraging them not to gamble with their sexual health.

The event, scheduled for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 18, at the Mary Walker Health Center, will offer free testing for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) to the first 100 students. They will receive one STI test for gonorrhea and chlamydia at no cost. If additional tests are needed, they will be charged $20 each. No appointment is necessary to participate.

This potentially marks the final year for GYT as they consider shifting focus towards a drop-off STI testing service. The April 18 event is aimed at encouraging students to undergo testing for common STIs for their own health and the health of their partners.

Last year's event, which was held entirely in-person, received positive feedback from students who attended, Health Services said, and organizers are looking forward to its return this year.

Several organizations, including Planned Parenthood, Title IX, Ask The Sexperts, Oswego County Opportunities and SUNY Upstate Medical University, will be present to provide information about sexual health. There will also be prizes, contests, giveaways and games available at various tables. Snacks and refreshments will be provided by Auxiliary Services.
