A Fire Safety Day event -- including a mock burn demonstration of a residence hall room -- will unfold from 12:30 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 17, in Parking Lot E-17 (north of the Poucher Wing of Marano Campus Center).
Attendees can see how quickly fire can spread and how smoke alarms and safe practices can make all the difference, organizers said. The first burn will take place at 12:30 p.m., the last burn at 4:30 p.m.
The event will also include fire safety education, with lifesaving tips from fire safety professionals, including evacuation planning, extinguisher use and everyday prevention.
Hands-on activities will include opportunities to try out fire extinguishers and to ask questions directly to safety experts.
This eye-opening event is free and open to the campus community. Attendees will have the chance to see, hear and feel fire safety in action and learn how to protect themselves, while learning the difference fire prevention makes.
