Penfield Library and the Faculty Research Council are teaming up again to host the second Faculty Research Exchange event of the semester at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, in 215 Penfield.

The event aims to be a thought-provoking hour with SUNY Oswego faculty members Ulises Mejias and Tiffany Deater as they share highlights from their respective research and activities. All members of the campus community are invited and encouraged to attend.

Mejias is a professor of communication studies at SUNY Oswego, a recipient of the 2023 State University of New York Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Scholarship, and a Fulbright Specialist from 2021 to 2025. His new book, co-authored with Nick Couldry, is "Data Grab: The New Colonialism of Big Tech and How to Fight Back" (Penguin Random House). Mejias is co-founder of Tierra Común, a network of activists, educators and scholars working towards the decolonization of data (tierracomun.net), and he also serves on the board of Humanities New York, an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Deater is an assistant professor of cinema and screen studies. She works as an independent filmmaker creating wildlife documentaries and experimental videos. Her works have screened internationally at various film festivals and art exhibitions and she has won multiple awards for her film work.
