In support of SUNY Oswego’s Strategic Plan Thrive driver, Health Services soft launched a new appointment type called Healthy Habits in fall 2025, with Director of Health Services Director Angie Brown achieving national certification in support of this initiative.

During Healthy Habits visits, students receive screening in all six pillars of Lifestyle Medicine to help students identify their level of readiness for change and identify which area is the most important to them.

In addition, Health Services has partnered with several areas of Student Affairs and with faculty to help provide additional resources for students.

Lifestyle Medicine is a medical specialty that uses therapeutic lifestyle interventions as a primary modality to treat chronic conditions including cardiovascular disease, Type II Diabetes and obesity. Lifestyle Medicine-certified clinicians are trained to apply evidenced-based, whole-person prescriptive lifestyle changes to treat and reverse conditions.

Lifestyle Medicine focuses on six pillars to help improve wellbeing.  These are a:

1) whole-food plant predominant diet,
2) physical activity
3) restorative sleep
4) stress management
5) avoidance of risky substances
6) positive social connections

SUNY Oswego encourage a healthy lifestyle for every Laker. Students may take advantage of this new appointment via the Health Services patient portal.
