Dear SUNY Oswego Students and Families:

SUNY Oswego has been working diligently and with our partners at SUNY System Administration to determine a credit/refund policy in accordance with the disruption of the Spring 2020 semester by the COVID-19 pandemic.  The charges and related credit percentages were calculated after careful consideration surrounding the student’s ability to access the services provided by each fee as of March 19, 2020.  We recognize that you may have many questions regarding this topic and hope this message serves as a clear resource to provide you with answers.

Credit percentages will be assessed to SPRING 2020 student accounts for the following fees* below:
  • Room - 50%
  • Meal Plan (inc. unused Laker Dining Dollars) - 50%
  • Athletic Fee - 50%
  • Transportation Fee - 50%
OTHER FEES (if applicable)
  • Parking Fee - 50%
  • Washer/Dryer Fee - 50%
  • Fitness Center - 50%
  • Resnet Fee - 50%
  • Course Related Fees -- based on usage
*Certain scholarships may impact the dollar amount credited to your account.

Your Spring 2020 student account will be automatically credited using the schedule listed above.  There is NO action necessary by the student for this to occur.  Any credit resulting from the COVID-19 related charge adjustments will be first applied to any outstanding Spring 2020 balance or prior term balance.  If an account credit remains after all outstanding balances are paid, a refund will be processed and sent to the student.  COVID-19 related credits applied to your Spring 2020 account will not impact your 2019-20 financial aid package.

To assist you in understanding the process completely, further detail is provided below:
  • Any credit resulting from the COVID-19 related charge adjustments will first be applied to any outstanding Spring 2020 semester or prior term account balance(s).  If there still remains a credit after all outstanding balances are paid, a refund will be generated.
  • We understand that the current unprecedented landscape is causing financial hardships for many of our students and families and that you want to receive adjustments as soon as possible.  We are working to complete this process by May 15, 2020 given the complexities and uniqueness of this process associated with each of our students.
  • Refunds (if applicable) will be processed in accordance with our refund policy and in the method in which the original payment was made.
  • Certain scholarships and waivers, particularly those covering charges other than tuition, may impact the amount credited to your student account.  Our Presidential and Destination scholarships for the Spring 2020 semester only will be adjusted 50% (25% of the annual amount) in alignment with the reduction in charges.  For more information related to scholarships, please contact the Office of Financial Aid at financial.aid@oswego.edu or the Office of Student Accounts at stuaccts@oswego.edu.
  • If you were granted permission to remain in residence beyond the March 19, 2020 target date, your credit will be pro-rated weekly based on the amount of time you remained on campus after March 19, 2020.
  • Students can choose to use their Spring 2020 (COVID-19) related refund to reduce the amount of loans borrowed in the 2019-20 financial aid year.  Please contact the Office of Financial Aid for more information at financial.aid@oswego.edu.
  • There will be a second wave of account adjustments in the coming weeks related to optional charges such as parking permits, fitness center fees and any applicable course-related fees.
