The campus and community are invited to a free Community Math Day celebration from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in SUNY Oswego's Shineman Center.

The event offers numbers, patterns, and puzzles designed for every generation. Whether attendees are 4 years old or 94, organizers aimed to provide something to spark curiosity and show you how fun math can be.

For safety purposes, children under the age of 17 must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the program.

The program includes five workshops: two aimed towards elementary school grades, two aimed towards middle school grades and one aimed towards high school and above. These workshops allow for in-depth learning of concepts.

Additionally, shorter table activities allow participants to explore a variety of mathematical concepts for as little or as long as they wish. A drone demonstration from Mexico Consolidated School District will occur, weather permitting.

The event concludes with a keynote address titled "The Power of Mathematics" and given by Darren Narayan, a professor and director of undergraduate research in mathematics at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Narayan is a graduate of the Oswego High School who received his undergraduate degree from the Binghamton University and his master's and Ph.D. from Lehigh University. He has received over $300,000 in funding from the National Science Foundation supporting the development of classroom materials to show students the real-world applications of mathematics.

Pre-registration is not required, but encouraged by visiting this website.

Community Math Day is jointly sponsored by the SUNY Oswego Department of Mathematics, and the Oswego Math Circle. The Oswego Math Circle is supported by the Mathematical Association of America and the Mary P. Dolciani Halloran Foundation.
