Family, friends and colleagues of Herbert and Sandra Van Schaack are invited to gather for a celebration of Herb’s life on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018, at 11 a.m., in the Sheldon Hall Ballroom. 

As previously shared in a September campus email, Herbert Van Schaack '51, alumnus and professor emeritus of psychology, passed away on Sept. 18. Read full obituaryHe joined the Oswego faculty in 1956, after he earned master’s and doctorate degrees from Cornell University. He received the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1975 and the Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1978.

He had years of service to government on both the local and national levels; served 10 years as chair of the SUNY Oswego Faculty Assembly and 11 years as a member of the Oswego County Legislature. He received national recognition from the American Association of State Colleges and Universities; founded the Oswego County Neighborhood Youth Corps; was a recipient of the Youth Award from the State Division for Youth, served as a local radio talk show host; and lectured around the world -- to name just a few of his accomplishments.
