Representatives of the NMDP (National Marrow Donor Program) Registry will be on campus holding a registry recruitment event that will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. on Friday, April 26 in 133 Marano Campus Center. The Student Health Advisory Committee hosts the event.

Organizers said that donors can help people like Taylor, a vibrant 13-year-old girl who was recently diagnosed with very severe aplastic anemia. In urgent need of a 10/10 match for a Bone Marrow Transplant, Taylor -- up until her diagnosis, -- lived a very active lifestyle going to school with her friends, spending time with her family and playing tennis at a competitive level. Her immune system is now so compromised that she has been hospitalized for much of this year and is in constant need of blood transfusions.

A bone marrow transplant would be a cure and allow Taylor to get back to her life as a child, organizers said. They encourage members of the campus community to consider swabbing to help Taylor and others in need of a life-saving transplant.
