Alumna Katie Morelli will speak on campus Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 5 p.m. in the Marano Campus Center auditorium (Room 132) at a College Loops kickoff event.

A user experience designer for AXA US in Syracuse, Morelli earned a bachelor of fine arts in graphic design in 2014 and a master’s in human computer interaction in 2016, both from SUNY Oswego. She will speak about her experiences and share her journey as a woman in the IT (information technology) industry.

At the event, attendees will learn about the mission of College Loops, a new inter-college networking organization on campus focused on social change and computing. The organization seeks to encourage members to hone their computer science skills, collaborate and create with one another, and inspire women to take action. College Loops will conduct instructional lessons and projects about technology, and its meetings will feature talks by women in the computing industry.

College Loops is embraced by SUNY Oswego’s Girls Who Code. The college has been running a Girls Who Code chapter for the past several years quite successfully on campus, creating enthusiasm and offering instruction in IT-related topics, particularly programming, to young girls from sixth to 12th grade from high schools all over Central New York. College Loops extends such a program to include college-level women in all majors. Through lectures, activities and events, the organization brings together anyone who is curious about and interested in technology but may not have had a direct avenue to engage and get involved.
