Student activities

You can find lots of opportunities to make the best of what Oswego has to offer. International Students and Scholar Services and the International Students Association plan trips each academic year from Niagara Falls to the Thousand Islands. Never heard of the Thousand Islands? Then you have something to learn about Upstate New York!

The Outing Club at SUNY Oswego plans an overnight trip to Algonquin Park in Ontario, Canada, and day treks to Watkins Glen and the Adirondacks. Never heard of the Adirondacks either? Then you have something else to learn about Upstate New York!

The History Club organizes a trip to Washington, D.C., which international students and scholars are welcome to join. During the Thanksgiving Break at the end of November, the Student Association organizes buses to New York City for the four-day getaway. The Art Department sometimes does a one-day gallery blitz of New York City, which fits well with both art majors and those just wanting a peek at the big-city life. The Biology Club may go to Boston, or the French Club to Montreal, Canada.

More than 200 clubs and associations appeal to various interests, from the cultural - the International Students' Association, the Asian Students' Association, and the Latino Student Union - to the political and religious. These groups offer film festivals, theme parties (Halloween and Winter Break, for example), and sometimes help their members plan their Spring Break far, far away from the cold and clouds, to the sunny south for five or six days.

The Hart Hall Global Living and Learning Center sponsors a myriad of events related to strengthening American and International student connections.

Drivers over 21 years of age can rent cars - for about $20 to $30 per day- and travel to Toronto [less than five hours], Montreal [about four hours], Rochester [about 80-90 minutes], and Syracuse [about 50 minutes] on their own for shopping, sightseeing, or just hanging out in unique clubs or restaurants.

It is a matter of personal taste. A student can be as active or as bored as s/he wants to be in Oswego and still have time left for the academic side of life.
