SUNY Oswego Phased Retirement Program

The Office of Human Resources is pleased to announce a newly developed SUNY Oswego Phased Retirement Program. We know that planning for retirement is a highly individualized process and there are many factors to consider. This spring, those planning for retirement have another option. Thoughtfully designed to allow an employee to gradually transition into retirement by working less than full-time, it is our hope that this program will support you with your retirement planning efforts as you plan for your future. If you are considering retirement, you may find this program a valuable resource.

The Phased Retirement Program will provide eligible academic employees and professional staff an opportunity to transition into retirement by planning a reduction in work or obligation for up to two years. The program allows employees to move into retirement gradually with a reduction in workload and pay. The Phased Retirement Program is entirely voluntary and optional.

Eligibility: Full-time faculty and professional staff represented by UUP Employees or unclassified Management Confidential employees who have at least ten years of full-time SUNY service, and qualify for retirement as a member of the New York State and Local Retirement System, New York State Teachers Retirement System or the SUNY Optional Retirement Program. The employee will also have to sign an irrevocable resignation letter for the purpose of retirement.

Any eligible employee should discuss the program with their chair or head of their department. Participation in this program is subject to review and approval.
