History

Function
Lonis Hall is one of two residence halls in the Mackin Complex, set at the far east end of campus. Since Lonis Hall and the rest of Mackin are further east than the other residence halls, residents fall within city limits and are residents of the City of Oswego, as well as the college. In addition to its location on campus, Lonis Hall has several attributes that set it apart from other residence halls. Lonis Hall has no elevators, but all rooms are singles meant for honors juniors, seniors and graduate students. Each resident also receives a double bed, built in dresser, closet and a 9 cubic-ft. refrigerator as added benefits.

Namesake
Lonis, which opened in 1951, is the more northern of Mackin Complex's two residence halls. Lonis Hall was named in honor of Earnest J. Lonis, a state legislator and graduate of Oswego State Normal and Training School’s Class of 1905.
