Best Practices to Increase Student Survey Participation

  • Set time aside in your class to complete the survey. The survey is mobile-friendly and all students with technology should be able to complete it.

  • Tell your students that you value their honest constructive feedback, and how you use the feedback to assess and improve your courses.

  • Let your students know that you are interested in both positive and constructive feedback.

  • We tell students that the surveys are anonymous and you will not see the results of the survey until all of the grades are in, but it is best to remind them of this as they do not always read the email.

  • Let the students know that you are the primary audience, but the results are also viewed by the chair and deans of your unit.

  • Give the students instructions on how to access the surveys.

  • Post a reminder in your Brightspace course to have them log in to https://aefis.oswego.edu where they will immediately be prompted to complete any surveys they have available. Creating other messages they can see besides the emails we send will increase the chances they participate.

  • If for some reason they cannot locate their email with the link, reassure them they do not need the link from the email to access their surveys. All surveys are accessible when they log in to the AEFIS homepage
  • Give students early reminders that survey emails will be sent out. Reinforcing it a few times may help with the information overload many experience at the end of a semester when the emails get sent.

  • Reassure students if they go to CTS for help with accessing the survey, their survey responses will remain anonymous.
