Permissions in Panopto Explained

We frequently get questions from instructors on campus about viewing permissions of content they have uploaded to Panopto for their courses.

What are the default permissions for Panopto?

When you create a Panopto folder in Blackboard, the default permissions allow you to create and publish videos. It also gives your students in the course permission to view your videos. No one else is able to view your videos outside of the course (unless you change the permissions).

Why can I see videos from other users on campus? Does that mean they can see mine?

When you log into your Panopto account online, on the home page you can see videos from other people. This is because those people have made those videos available and chose the option that also lists them. This does not mean that yours are also viewable by others. You would have to change the permissions on your videos and/or folders to make them available. More details on how permissions work can be found in this support article from Panopto.
