Banner 8 to Retire in January

Banner 9 will replace Banner 8 on January 2nd, 2019. From that day forward, Banner 8 will be fully retired and unavailable. According to Sue Fisk, Assistant Director of CTS, “Banner 9 offers an enhanced user experience. And if you aren’t using local enhancements (if you are, you’ll know), you can use Google Chrome for the first time ever.”

Here are some helpful tips related to the new version.

Readability

Having trouble reading Banner? Use these shortcuts:

On Windows:

Press “Ctrl” and “+”  to increase size

Press “Ctrl” and  “–” to decrease size

Press “Ctrl” and “0” to reset back to default size

On macOS:

Press “Command ⌘” and “+”  to increase size

Press “Command ⌘” and  “–” to decrease size

Press “Command ⌘” and “0” to reset back to default size

Application Navigator

There are 4 ways to navigate. At the top left, there is a 3 bar menu icon. Click it (or press “Ctrl” and “M”) to open. There is also a “Recent Opened” icon, which was previously located under “File” and maxed out at 10 forms. Now, it recalls all previous forms opened, and you can click the “Folder” icon or press “Ctrl” and “Y” (Windows) or “Command ⌘” and “Y” (Mac) to open it.

On the main page, there is a search bar that can be used to search page names and descriptions. Additionally, pressing “Ctrl” and “Shift” and “Y” (Windows) or “Command ⌘” and “Shift” and “Y” (Mac) brings up another powerful search bar.

Performing Queries

Queries in Banner 9 have been retooled and work a lot like Excel with common SQL/Excel-like filter options:

1. % and _ are wildcards
2. Some query pages have “locked” columns, non locked columns can now be moved around.
3. Columns may be sorted in ascending or descending order by clicking on the column header.
4. Use F7 and F8 keystrokes as alternatives to Filter and Go buttons.
