Empty File Assignment Submission Issue with Microsoft Edge

We recently became aware of a problem submitting/uploading files to Blackboard when using the Microsoft Edge browser in Windows 10.  The issue occurs when a file to be uploaded to Blackboard is still open at the time it is being uploaded, resulting in an empty file submission.  For example, this can occur for students when attaching papers to assignments during the submission process.

 

How do I know if my submission contains an empty file?

 

1. Once the submission process is completed, refresh the page by clicking on the browser’s reload button.


2. Inside the Box frame, the message “We’re sorry, the preview didn’t load.” is displayed.

 

How do I resolve the problem?

 

  • Ensure the file to be submitted is not open on your computer.   Then, from the Assignment page, click the Start New button. Proceed creating a new submission.

  • Or, use a different browser such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.  With one of these browsers, open the Assignment page, then click the Start New button. Proceed creating a new submission.
