April 21, 2016

The Eastern Communication Association recently honored SUNY Oswego communication studies department chair Dr. Mary C. Toale as an ECA Teaching Fellow at its annual conference in Baltimore.

The designation recognizes a distinguished career of teaching excellence in the field of communication and is limited to colleagues who have active and ongoing service to the association.

Initially established in 1910, the ECA continues as the oldest professional communication association in the United States. The service-oriented organization is dedicated to achievement in research, criticism, communication theory and excellence in teaching.

Toale, whose doctorate in instructional communication and educational theory and practice is from West Virginia University, joined the faculty at SUNY Oswego in August 2014. Under her leadership, the college recently began offering a master’s degree in strategic communication.

SUNY Oswego’s communication studies department also offers a graduate certificate in integrated media, as well as undergraduate degree programs in broadcasting and mass communication, communication and social interaction, journalism, and public relations. For more information, visit
