30th annual SUNY Oswego Toy Drive to support local families

The SUNY Oswego campus community looks to make spirits brighter this holiday season through the college's 30th annual Toy Drive.

The college works in conjunction with the Oswego County Department of Social Services to ensure that children from low-income families receive a present during the holiday season.

Trees decorated with paper ornaments adorn lobbies of many buildings on campus. On each ornament is the age and gender of a child in need, along with gift suggestions. Faculty, staff, students and community members may choose an ornament, purchase an appropriate gift and return the ornament attached to the unwrapped gift in time for one of the two campus collection dates, Dec. 6 and 13.

The families will come to campus to receive the toys during a distribution event in Laker Hall.

Casey Walpole of Facilities Services, who has been involved since the Toy Drive's inception, heads the effort, working with representatives in various academic and administrative buildings.

Those wishing to make a monetary donation can send a check to the SUNY Oswego Toy Drive in care of Walpole in Room 303A of Park Hall, SUNY Oswego, Oswego, NY 13126.

The toy drive is one of many efforts the campus puts together to help the community. The college also is in the middle of its annual State Employees Federated Appeal/United Way campaign, with a goal of raising $30,000 for community causes as well as collecting food and toys for local families.
