SUNY Service-Learning Opportunity with Free Flight + Meals + Lodging + 3 Credits

May 15, 2018 - 8:51am
Dear SUNY Oswego Students,

Are you interested in joining a New York statewide effort to “Stand with Puerto Rico”? Would you like to earn three credits and participate this summer in a service-learning experience in Puerto Rico?

SUNY Oswego is proud to partner with Chancellor Kristina M. Johnson, the State University of New York (SUNY) and Governor Andrew Cuomo in his NY Stands with Puerto Rico Recovery and Rebuilding Initiative.  As part of the effort, SUNY Oswego and students from across SUNY and CUNY are invited to work through non-profit organizations that are aiding in the reconstruction and revitalization efforts of communities across the island damaged by hurricanes Irma and Maria.

Below are key details associated with this unique service-oriented experience.

  • Students will receive three (3) summer credits and a $500 stipend.
  • Housing, meals and arrangements are provided and paid for by SUNY. Free airfare will be provided from a New York City-area airport.
  • All programs will be hands-on service learning experiences that require physical work in a tropical climate during the summer. Proper precautions and safety measures will be taken, and students will work under the supervision of faculty and staff from SUNY and the partner non-profit organizations.
  • There are four (4) two-week blocks between late June and mid-August from which students can select their preferred time when they apply.
  • Interested students must apply by this THURSDAY, MAY 17, 2018
