Accounting BS

Studying accounting equips individuals with a fundamental understanding of financial principles and the ability to analyze and interpret financial data, making them indispensable in the business world. Additionally, a degree in accounting offers versatile career opportunities, as every organization, regardless of its size or industry, requires skilled professionals to manage its financial health and compliance with regulations.

The professional experience of award-winning faculty will add a practical perspective to your study. Our pass rates on the Certified Public Accountant examination reflect well on our students and dedicated professors, some of whom teach in commercial review courses for the exam.

Student organizations like the Accounting Society and honor society Beta Alpha Psi, plus projects like the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, allow you to network, seek leadership opportunities and gain hands-on accounting experience. Explore internships and co-op positions, highly recommended for motivated students with good grades.

I was recently accepted to a co-op in Boston with Biogen in their Internal Audit Department. I have to credit Oswego for giving me this experience. Through learning about the opportunity to practicing my interviewing skills, Oswego is the reason I'm going to have this amazing opportunity.

The best part of this major is Meet the Accountants night. Dozens of accounting firms came right to campus to meet with students and discuss internship and full-time opportunities. Each interview that I have had since has been on campus and very convenient.

I learned not only from school work, but also from extra-curricular activities such as Running Club, Chinese Club, Investment Club, and Accounting Society. These activities helped me developing my leadership skills and determination.

I had the pleasure of working very closely with a few accounting professors throughout my college career. Of course they were always there to help me with my assignments and projects.

The faculty at Oswego have encouraged me to push myself. The department is very fast-paced and it has made me eager to learn and be equally driven.
