Al Roker, national weather anchor and co-host of the 3rd hour on NBC's TODAY, connected with the campus community on Oct. 1 for an informal conversation with students and campus members, moderated by President Deborah F. Stanley and student Rory Parker.

The sweet, soaring sounds of the college's Gospel Choir still participated in this year's ALANA Conference virtually, lending their voices to the Sept. 27 Peace Walk panel presentation.

Minnijean Brown-Trickey, a lifelong activist and one of the Little Rock Nine who helped desegregate public schools in the 1950s, served as Sept. 23 opening keynote speaker for this year’s ALANA Student Leadership Conference. At the beginning of her inspiring talk, she is welcomed by moderator Rodmon King and introduced by student co-organizers Britini Robinson and Kayla Biles.

Working with instrumentation to analyze acidic ph levels with indicator solutions are Anna Makara, a senior chemistry major with concentration in environmental chemistry, and Michael Kirsch, a senior biochemistry major. They are students in Vadoud Niri’s “Instrumental Analysis” class.

The annual Alumni Leadership Panel during the ALANA Conference welcomes back distinguished graduates who offer advice, wisdom and encouragement to current students. This year, it took place virtually on Sept. 24.

Broadway star Mandy Gonzalez performed a free virtual concert on Sept. 29 as part of the college’s Artswego Performing Arts Series and ALANA Conference. Gonzalez has starred in “Hamilton,” “In The Heights” and “Wicked” on Broadway, and also has a hit album “Fearless” to her credit. Pictured joining her online after the performance is Toby Malone, a SUNY Oswego theatre faculty member, and ALANA co-organizer Alaces Sarmiento, president of the Asian Student Association. In a special feature, SUNY Oswego senior theatre major Rachel Leotta joined Gonzalez in a virtual duet on "For Good," a song from "Wicked." 

Tommy Orange, author of this year’s Oswego Reading Initiative selection for the novel “There There,” held an interactive talk on Sept. 30 for the virtual closing keynote of the ALANA Conference. The New York Times bestseller follows 12 characters from Native communities all traveling to the Big Oakland Powwow, connected to one another in ways they may not yet realize. More than 300 people tuned into the live Q&A, with more than 60 questions submitted for the engaging author.

Renqian Yang, an art department faculty member who teaches ceramics, buys some locally-grown fresh produce Sept, 17 from Ingersoll Farms from Fulton at the Oswego Farmer's market on West First Street.
