Laker students and staff joined him in the annual celebration, this year held July 6 from Oswego High School to Fort Ontario. The Oswego County Micron Strategy Steering Committee hosted its second annual summit June 20, at SUNY Oswego’s Marano Campus Center auditorium, celebrating a year of significant milestones and strategic collaboration supporting Micron Technology’s historic $100 billion investment in Central New York. Class of 1975 alumni were each presented with a Golden Alumni pin by Heath Wood, vice president for university advancement, in a ceremony during the Golden Anniversary Society Breakfast held in Sheldon Hall ballroom.

Longtime admission staff member and 1977 graduate Jerome “Jerry” Oberst received the Alumni Impact Award at the University Update program during Alumni Reunion Weekend. The Mark Cole Memorial Library Dedication was held during Reunion Weekend with a reception in Tyler Hall. Cole was a longtime and beloved member of the theatre faculty who directed countless productions and also served for many years as chair of the department.

The Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders visited campus for a reception on July 7. President Peter O. SUNY Oswego Career Services earned two top honors at the recent SUNY Career Development Organization (SUNYCDO) conference, reflecting the office’s commitment to excellence, innovation and student-centered impact. Jason Virginia (at left), office manager in Career Services, received the Unsung Hero award, recognizing a SUNYCDO member who positively influences programs from behind the scenes with a positive attitude, a willingness to help in any capacity and pursuit of the highest standards. This marks the first time in SUNYCDO’s history that an individual in a specialist administrative role has received this honor. SUNY Oswego Career Services also received the Excellence in Employer/Community Collaboration: Office Award, which recognizes programs that engage employers and community partners to enhance career education, networking and recruiting.

Three alumni returned to Oswego to meet with science students and faculty and to hear student presentations on July 10. Community members from the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) regularly help unload and organize deliveries to Oswego's Human Concerns Center from the Food Bank of New York, including this shipment on July 9. RSVP of Oswego County, which has been dedicated to engaging volunteers aged 55 and over in the community since 1973, is part of the university's Office of Workforce Innovation and External Relations (OWIER) and AmeriCorps Seniors.

Earlier in spring, the Office of Sustainability hosted an Arbor Day Celebration that included planting two new trees in the Centennial Arboretum located near the intersection of Washington Boulevard and Sheldon Avenue.
