Surviving Spouse Information

The following is a list of things that a surviving spouse needs to do when a retiree dies. I hope the information will be of some assistance to you.
  1. Notify the appropriate retirement system in writing and include a certified copy of the death certificate. Can telephone and inquire regarding the retirement check disposition- whether need to return the check, etc.

Oswego Emeriti Association

The Emeriti Association of SUNY Oswego was established in 1989 as an unincorporated organization of retired professional staff members. The association is governed by an executive committee made up of eight elected members and two ex officio appointed members which include the Emeriti Association newsletter editor and the Vice President for Development and Alumni Engagement. 

The constitution of the Association defines four distinct purposes of the organization:

Through their many programs and projects, members of the the Emeriti Association play a leadership role in supporting the goals and plans of the college. Highlights of emeriti programs and projects include:

Memorial Book Project

In recognition of professional achievement and years of service to SUNY Oswego, the Emeriti Association purchases memorial books in the names of emeriti librarians, faculty and non-teaching professionals who taught in an academic department or the Campus School.  Each book is housed in Penfield Library and carries a bookplate with the name of the deceased member. Books purchased in the individual's discipline, are selected by Penfield's librarian staff. The list of honored emeriti and the memorial books may be found by clicking on the title above.

Emeriti Constitution

The purposes are to facilitate:
•  Maintenance of the traditions and collective memory of the College and transmission of them to the College community
•  Communication and fellowship among emeriti and associate members
•  Continuing relationships between emeriti and associate members and the College community 
•  Involvement of emeriti and associate members in services to the College community
