The Counseling and Psychological Services (CPS) Department sponsors all day professional development workshops each semester for up to 150 participants per event, many of whom are school counselors and psychologists who practice within the central New York region. Other participants include graduate students and faculty. Nationally-known speakers and the opportunity to earn continuing education credits are added attractions.

Certification Out of State

Where do you want to teach? Check out the Certification Map to look for requirements in every state.

If you are applying for certification in another state, you may be requested to complete a form verifying your completion of an approved program leading to teacher, pupil-personnel, or administrative certification. You MUST complete your portion of the form and either mail or fax the form to the Registrar's Office for completion:

Fingerprinting

As of July 2, 2001, under the Schools Against Violence in Education Legislation, applications for new teaching certificates are subject to a fingerprint-supported criminal history background check. Background checks are required for all school personnel, including applicants for certification and all educational services (BOCES).

Required Workshops

Candidates completing initial Teacher Education certification programs must complete seven (7) state-mandated workshops in order for SUNY Oswego to recommend you for certification. See the table below for a list of the NYS mandated workshops.
