Residence Hall Closing Instructions

Residents are reminded that they must vacate their residence hall within twenty-four (24) hours after their last exam and no later than 6 p.m. on Friday, May 11. All graduating resident students, as well as those with other College obligations, who wish to remain in the residence halls after 6:00 pm on Friday, May 11, must submit a written notice to their residence hall director on or before Wed., May 9. Residents with extensions who are not attending commencement must sign out at 8:00 am on Saturday, May 12. ALL RESIDENCE HALLS WILL CLOSE AT 6:00 PM ON SATURDAY, MAY 12, 2012. Accommodations past this time and date may be purchased by contacting the Residence Life & Housing Office in 303 Culkin Hall, 312- 2240, by Thursday, May 10.

The following steps are necessary to officially check out of your residence hall:

  1. All belongings must be removed from the building by sign out. Any personal items remaining in the building or on the grounds will be disposed of.
  2. Broom sweep your room and empty waste baskets before signing out. Failure to do so will result in an additional charge.
  3. Complete a forwarding address card. Only first class mail will be forwarded.
  4. Have your room inspected by a residence hall staff member unless you are using Express Checkout in which case you should contact a staff member for an explanation of that process. Your copy of the inspection sheet is the only bill you will receive for any residence hall damages. Damage charges will be applied to your student account. Any charges must be paid prior to receipt of a transcript. Outstanding obligations will result in a hold on your future registration. Appeals are to be made within 30 days of receipt of this bill.
  5. Turn in your signed Room Condition Report (RCR), room key and room key.
  6. Officially sign out by swiping your ID card at the main desk. Once your room has been inspected and you have officially signed out, you cannot reoccupy your room.
  7. All residence halls will be closed and secured at 6:00 pm on Saturday, May 12. Once the residence halls are closed, anyone attempting to enter or who has entered without specific authorization is subject to arrest.
  8. Only current residents who have paid for housing for the first week of summer session and are in need of storage should contact the Residence Life & Housing office, 303 Culkin Hall, 312-2246.
