A native of Central New York who used a math degree from SUNY Oswego to make a fortune in the real estate business has informed the college of his intention to bequeath approximately $5 million to his alma mater in support of the Possibility Scholars program.

The State University of New York will bestow its 2011-12 Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence on five SUNY Oswego students who have demonstrated academic success with significant accomplishments outside the classroom.

Deborah Engelke, a SUNY Oswego alumna, local businesswoman and photographer, will display her “visual poems” from Thursday, May 17, to Saturday, July 7, at Oswego State Downtown.

Joseph Coughlin, a 1982 graduate of SUNY Oswego who is internationally known for his work in gerontology, business innovation and public policy, will receive an honorary doctor of science degree from the State University of New York on May 12 at Oswego’s 151st Commencement.
