Students living on campus will receive digital cable television!
Residence Life and Housing at SUNY Oswego has recently upgraded the channel line-up received from our service provider, Spectrum. The new line-up will feature a high definition digital channel package. This will eliminate the need for a set-top box cable receiver!
Please note: hook-up will remain the same (a coaxial cable is still needed). To hook up a cable-ready tv, students can either bring a cable or purchase one at the College Bookstore.
Television compatibility
- If you have a flat panel television purchased after 2010, chances are excellent that it will work with the new digital system. To be compatible, your TV must be equipped with a QAM (quadrature amplitude modulation) tuner. Refer to your TV's specifications to know if your model is compatible. Please be advised that less expensive TVs sometime come with a lower quality QAM tuner that may be unable to tune all of the channels. We have found this to be true of some models manufactured by Dynex, Insignia, as well as some low-cost models from Visio. If that is the case, a "digital conversion box" can be purchased.
- If your television manual indicates that it does not support a QAM tuner, you can replace your television or purchase a "digital conversion box". The college will not be able supply an adaptor box. We recommend the iView 3500STBII. Just like the TV, you should ensure that the conversion boxes includes a QAM tuner, and not just an ATSC tuner. Most tuner boxes available at electronic stores from over-the-air digital TV transition do not include a QAM tuner, so be sure to verify the specifications from the manufacturer.
NEW channel lineup
- Please refer to the resident student handbook for a complete listing of channels. After the digital system is engaged, the campus will sit back, relax and look forward to new high definition television channels on campus in the near future.

What telephone service is available?
The college no longer provides active dial tone in individual residence hall rooms. Students who wish to have dial tone in their room can request service by contacting the Campus Technology Services (CTS) Technology Support Center at help@oswego.edu. In order for students to place off-campus calls they will need to arrange for local and long distance service at this address.
Internet and WiFi
All residential communities are part of the SUNY Oswego Wireless Network. In addition, all resident bedrooms have ResNet, SUNY Oswego's Residential Network. ResNet provides a dedicated wired connection to the campus network (and the Internet) right from your residence hall room. At least one 10Mbps data connection is provided in each resident bedroom on campus. More specific information regarding ResNet can be found on the CTS web page.
What television service is available on campus?
Residence hall rooms receive access to cable television and each hall has at least one television lounge. Each room will be provided with a list of stations (also published in the Resident Student Handbook) accessible with a cable-ready television. To hook up a cable-ready tv, students can either bring a cable or purchase one at the College Bookstore.
