We believe a campus community engaged with our students will lead to their success. We use the Starfish Early Alert System as a collaborative effort between instructors and advisors to identify students who are at-risk of failing and allow faculty and staff to communicate and track interventions with students.

Log-in to Starfish

Students and advisors can access Starfish through their BlackBoard and myOswego accounts.

  • Blackboard: Log into using your Lakernet ID and password, you will find Starfish in the middle of the home screen.
  • myOswego: In the Advisor menu, enter an individual student's profile, you will see a link for starfish on the left navigation bar

Monitoring Your Progress

Starfish allows advisors and faculty to monitor your academic progress. Through Starfish faculty can raise flags if they're concerned about your academic progress, and set up meetings to help you. Through Starfish advisors can also give kudos when you're excelling!

Browser/Connection Issues

  • Starfish operates best in Mozilla Firefox. If you are having issues with Starfish or receiving error messages, try switching browsers.
  • If you are using Safari and having issues follow this Trouble-shooting guide.
  • There are some issues with blocking/enabling cookies. To determine if you browser compatibility it where it is supposed to be, visit the Open SUNY Compatibility Help link.

Student Intake Survey

Advisors may invite first-year students to complete a short Student Intake Form that will help advisors get to know their advisees, understand what their needs are and will help inform the second advisor meeting.
