Assistant Hall Director

Under the direction of Residence Life and Housing, Assistant Hall Directors (AHDs) work within their assigned residential areas to create living environments that facilitate positive learning experiences communities and support the academic mission of SUNY Oswego. AHDs play key roles in the Department of Residence Life and Housing (RLH) and the broader campus community. Assistant Hall Directors live on campus and are therefore available to staff and students outside regular business hours during crisis situations or other critical times. Visit Assistant Hall Director Posting page for a complete job description. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide leadership to paraprofessional staff and student leaders
  • Partner with students to develop vibrant inclusive communities
  • Encourage student engagement, community contributions, and a free exchange of ideas, and cultivation of skills and knowledge
About the position
  • This position is live-in and serves in the on-call rotation
  • Oversees the front desk operations and recycling rooms
  • Provide high level customer service and support to residents and families
  • Possess effective interpersonal communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to motivate, develop, direct, and train staff
Required qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Accepted into a Graduate Program or have submitted an application and waiting on a response to go through the interview process

Assistant Director, Student and Community Advocacy

Under the direction of the Senior Associate Director for Residence Life and Housing, the Assistant Director strives to develop cohesive, safe, and positive residence hall communities; manages response to student conduct in the residence halls; leads initiatives to improve community standards and community health; and serves as student and staff advocate for the purpose of enhancing the operations, programs, services, and student retention of a residence hall system. Serves as a member of the department's leadership team initiating strategic planning and organizational leadership to facilitate the development of the overall operation including engagement of students in educational opportunities that exist to build community and develop citizenship and leadership; support student success; and contribute to the achievement of SUNY Oswego's academic mission and strategic planning goals. Acts decisively and diplomatically to advance and protect departmental and University relations in resolving situations that are unique, controversial, or not fully resolved by hall staff. Serves as a champion for the student experience in the residence halls through all areas of responsibility. Required qualifications
  • Master's degree in Higher Education, counseling, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of professional experience working with college students.
  • Strong knowledge of student development theory.
  • Experience in student support programs and services, crisis intervention techniques, and conflict resolution.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. 
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.

Associate Director for Recruitment and Training

Under the direction of the Senior Associate Director for Residence Life and Housing, the Associate Director for Recruitment and Training is a member of the Residence Life and Housing leadership team. This position is responsible for the recruitment, selection, onboarding, and training processes for residence life and housing staff members. This position is also responsible for developing a comprehensive training program for professional staff and will implement the performance evaluation process for the Residence Life and Housing team. Central to this role is promoting student recruitment, retention, and academic enrichment, specifically as it relates to student learning and development, equity and inclusion, and student engagement. Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Higher Education, counseling, or related field.
  • Five or more years of professional experience working with college students.
  • Strong knowledge of student development theory.
  • Experience in staff recruitment, training, and evaluation.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. 
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
