Patti McGill Peterson at 1986 Honors Convocation

Then: The Spring Honors Convocation rounded into its current form by 1965, according to a Palladium-Times article from that year noting the Vega women's honor society took over and modernized what was known as "Moving Up Day." The formal ceremony would honor students who won academic awards, members of "Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities" and the eight honor societies at the time. Here Patti McGill Peterson, a former SUNY Oswego vice president for academic services and founder of the college's Honors Program, speaks at the 1986 ceremony. Now: This year's Honors Convocation will recognize around 115 students in a range of academic disciplines and this year's Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence winners -- including Amy LaLonde, shown in a previous ceremony receiving an award from Norman Weiner, then director of Oswego's Honors Program. Still coordinated by Vega as a formal awards ceremony with a robed procession, today's Honors Convocation will begin at 3 p.m. in the Campus Center arena. The honor LaLonde is shown accepting?
