New Student Parking Information

What every new student should know about parking on the SUNY Oswego campus.

Every vehicle that parks on campus grounds is required to have a parking permit, no
matter how long the vehicle is parked. ie: five minutes or days.

Where is Parking Services located and what are the hours of operation?

University Police Parking Services is located at the corner of Route 104 and New
Street, near the main entrance to the college. The phone number is 315.312.3227.
Parking Services is open weekdays 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. Closed from 12-12:30 for lunch.

How do you register your car to get a parking permit (sticker)?

You may register online by going to the online parking portal.  Students will log in using
their Laker Net ID and Password and following the instructions for registering. You may
also register in person at Parking Services. Please be prepared to show photo ID and a
valid vehicle registration. Remember to keep your receipt, take a map and rules and
regulations document and affix your parking sticker to your vehicle on the passenger
side lower corner of the front windshield immediately (so you won't lose it). Please note
you aren’t legally registered until the sticker is affixed to the windshield.

Stickers must be displayed on the front windshield, lower passenger side corner and
they must be permanently affixed, (meaning that they cannot be partially affixed or
taped on) or your vehicle is not considered registered and you could still get a ticket for
either improper display of your permit or for being unregistered if you did not put the
permit on your car.

Permits are not transferable from car to car or from driver to driver.

What forms of payment are accepted online?

E-check, MasterCard, Visa, Discover, American Express or charge may be transferred
to the Student Account bill.

What forms of payment are accepted in person?

Cash, check or charge may be transferred to the Student Account bill.

What if you drive a different vehicle on campus?

If you already have a permanent permit for another vehicle, then you need to stop in to
Parking Services to obtain a temporary permit at no charge. If you do not have a
permanent permit you may get up to seven temporary permits for $1 a day per
semester. If Parking Services isn’t open you can always go to University Police located
in Pathfinder Hall to obtain a temporary permit as they are open all the time (24 hours a
day, seven days a week).

What are the procedures for handicapped parking?

Anyone that has been issued a handicapped hang tag or license plate through the city,
town, village clerk or police departments may park in a handicapped parking space.
Vehicle must also have a valid SUNY Oswego parking permit properly displayed.

What does designated parking mean? Does the college ever not enforce parking?

The parking lots are divided into three major lot sections being: Commuter - students
living off campus; Resident - students living on campus; Employee - employees.
Parking is enforced year round, 24/7. If a lot is full you may check other nearby lots that
you are registered for. If you have a commuter sticker you must park in a commuter lot.
Students with valid parking permits are allowed to park in the employee lots from 5pm to
midnight Monday – Friday and 7am – midnight on Saturday and Sunday.

If you have a visitor stay with you, where do they park, and do they need a
permit?

Visitors that are staying with residents need to go to Parking Services where they can
get a permit for $1 a day and park in resident lots. When Parking Services is not open
you can go to University Police located at Pathfinder Hall to obtain a temporary permit.

How do you appeal a ticket?

You must request an appeal within 5 calendar days of when the ticket was issued to you.
You have three options to appeal a ticket:

  • In person – Request for an in person hearing can be done at the Parking Office or via email to parking@oswego.edu.  Parking services will schedule you for a date, time and place of where to appear.
  • Online - Go to: appeal a ticket
  • In writing: via email to parking@oswego.edu

How long do you have to pay a ticket, and does the amount increase if you don't
pay it on time?

Student parking citations that remain unpaid after 10 days are transferred to the Student
Account bill.

Are there other ways to pay for tickets instead of in person at the Parking
Services Office?
Yes, you can pay online through the parking portal
https://sunyoswego.aimsparking.com/

How many tickets can you get before you are towed?

Anyone that is issued 10 or more parking violations within the academic year (August to
August) will be placed on the “TOW List “ and if your vehicle is found parked on campus
in violation of campus parking regulations it may be subject to removal by towing at the
owner’s expense.
