Events & Programming

Graduate Studies offers signature events and opportunities each year for our students and faculty to connect. We celebrate our incoming students with Orientation, the graduate studies community (past, present and future) during Grad Studies Week, research and creative activity during 3MT (3-minute Thesis), great mentorship through awards, and earned credentials during our Commencement Lounge.

Graduate Student Orientation

Orientation is our big welcome to graduate school and a great way to connect with peers and future mentors. Our asynchronous online orientation will set you at ease and give you tools that you need to succeed. Online orientation opens 2-weeks prior to the start of each term/semester.

Each fall we offer two in-person orientations: one at our Syracuse Campus and one at our Oswego campus. These in-person events are a great way to connect with peers and faculty. We feature interesting panels and the opportunity to share a meal with new friends.

Graduate Studies Week

SUNY Oswego's Division of Graduate Studies celebrates the graduate student experience with a week of presentations, discussions, social activities, and community building in November.

Events will take place at the Oswego and Syracuse campuses throughout the week.  Students can speak with faculty, staff, and fellow students to provide feedback and career discussions.  Undergraduate students can join us to ask questions about the graduate experience and determine what SUNY Oswego Graduate Programs might be a good fit for their academic and professional journey.

3MT (3-Minute Thesis)

3MT is an annual competition that celebrates the research and creative work of our graduate students at SUNY Oswego. The competition is held each spring and challenges graduate students to present their scholarly and creative work in three minutes to a non-expert audience using a single static slide. Winners earn cash prizes.

CoJourn

Prioritizing your well-being doesn’t have to be a challenge, and you don’t need to do it alone. Graduate Studies is excited to offer CoJourn, a peer-to-peer accountability program to support well-being to graduate students. Workshops and information sessions will be held in November and December. The program launches on January 30th.
