Awards & Recognition

SUNY Oswego was named a Best for Vets College by Military Times for 2017 and 2016; a Military Friendly School by Military Advanced Education for the past five years; and a Military Friendly School by G. I. Jobs for the past four years.  U.S. News and World Report placed Oswego 25th on its list of Best Colleges for Veterans among Regional Universities in the North.

Fast Facts

Full-time active duty servicemembers stationed within New York state, as well as their dependents, are eligible for the resident tuition rate. Honorably discharged veterans, regardless of their state of residency, are also eligible for the resident tuition rate.
Any servicemember called to active duty during a semester is eligible for refund of tuition and fees.




The Lt. Col. Mike Waters, USAF (Ret.) '70 Scholarship is awarded annually to assist students needing financial assistance with preference given to veterans, particularly combat veterans.


SUNY Oswego awards up to 30 college credits for military experience through the Joint Services Transcript System.



Battle Buddy Center

SUNY Oswego's Battle Buddy Center became the 12th NYSID-designated Battle Buddy location in New York state on Veterans Day 2016.   We are the only college in Central New York offering this “safe haven” for vets.   The center is a gathering place used exclusively by our military students that promotes a strong sense of community and supports academic and personal success for our veterans.
