Why SUNY Oswego Theatre?

When you study theatre at SUNY Oswego you have the opportunity to immerse yourself in all aspects of the artform. With dedicated courses in acting, directing, stage management, scenic design, lighting design, sound design, theatre history, and dramaturgy, you will have the opportunity to earn a valuable generalist BA degree at Oswego. You will learn from faculty and staff with years of diverse professional theatre experience, and will be offered  numerous opportunities to develop skillsets to establish a career in theatre and its related industries. All of our courses and productions are conducted in newly renovated facilities which feature the most extensive technical capabilities of any institution in our region.

Auditions are not required: at SUNY Oswego Theatre, we accept students of all skill and interest levels. An experienced actor, designer, or stage manager may expect hands-on opportunities right away in the department’s three to four productions each academic year. Programming includes works from the classical canon, modern American works, musical theatre, social justice projects, and new plays. Each season is highlighted by the unique Blackfriars Student Theatre Production, an entirely student-driven performance mentored by faculty and staff.
