1)      What is Orientation?

Orientation is your formal introduction to SUNY Oswego as well as SUNY Oswego in Syracuse.  You will meet fellow students, program faculty and staff members from both main campus and the Metro Center.  The program will provide you with information vital to your success as a student at  SUNY Oswego in Syracuse  You will receive your fall course schedule with an opportunity to meet with an academic advisor to make any necessary changes.

2)      When is the SUNY Oswego in Syracuse Student Orientation?

Wednesday, August 2nd from 4:00PM -8:00PM

3)      Is the SUNY Oswego in Syracuse Student Orientation mandatory?

Yes.  The program will cover important student information and you will receive your class schedule during the program.  This program is also an opportunity to build relationships with fellow students, program faculty and staff members from both main campus and the Syracuse campus.

4)      How long is the orientation session?

The program will run 4 hours (4:00PM – 8:00PM with a light dinner provided).

5)      What time should I arrive for the program?  When is check-in? When will the program conclude?

Please plan on arriving by 4:00PM.  Check-in begins at 4:00PM and the program begins at 4:15PM.  Please plan on staying until the conclusion of the program at 8:00PM.

6)      Where do I park? How much does parking cost?

Metered municipal parking lots and on-street metered parking are conveniently available immediately surrounding The Atrium Building.  Metered parking is $1.25 an hour (2 hour maximum) from 9AM-6PM (free after 6PM).

Discounted off-street parking is available at The Atrium Parking Garage (located one block west of The Atrium Building, on the corner of Washington and Franklin Streets) and is $4.00 per day.

VERY IMPORTANT: You must use the FRANKLIN STREET ENTRANCE to be eligible for discounted parking and bring the garage parking ticket to the front desk of the SUNY Oswego Metro Center for validation in order to get the SUNY Oswego daily rate of $4.00.  The Atrium Garage is open 24/7.  

7)   Is there an orientation fee?

There is a $50 orientation fee.  Orientation is a comprehensive program for new students which enlists the assistance of various campus departments and services. There is an immense amount of preparation that goes into coordinating each program. The fee covers your meal, staffing and other operational costs such as technical assistance and program materials.

8)      When will I register for classes?

All SUNY Oswego in Syracuse students are pre-registered for their courses by an advisor prior to attending orientation.  You will have an opportunity to meet with an advisor to confirm or make any necessary changes to your course schedule at orientation.

9)   Can I bring a guest to the program?

Due to space restraints and program content specifically tailored to students, we ask that only students attend the program.

10)   What should I wear to orientation?

Dress is casual at orientation.

11)   When do fall classes begin?

Check the college calendar for important dates, including when classes begin and end.
