RESIDENCE HALL CLOSING INSTRUCTIONS

ALL RESIDENCE HALLS WILL CLOSE AT 10:00 AM ON SATURDAY, MAY 12, 2018.

Residents are reminded that they must vacate their residence halls (including The Village) within twenty-four (24) hours after their last exam and no later than 10:00 am on Saturday, May 12, 2018.

  • Resident students who remain in the residence halls after 6:00 pm on Friday, May 11 and are not attending commencement must check out by 10:00 am on Saturday, May 12, 2018.
  • Graduating resident students as well as those attending commencement must check out by 6:00 pm on Saturday, May 12, 2018.

Accommodations past this time and date may be purchased by contacting the Residence Life and Housing Office in 303 Culkin Hall, 312-2246, by Wednesday, May 9, 2018.

The following steps are necessary to officially check out of the residence halls:

  1. All belongings must be removed from the building.  Any personal items remaining in the building or on the grounds will be discarded.
  2. Rooms/suites/townhouses must be broom-swept and all garbage removed.  Failure to do so will result in cleaning charges.
  3. All keys and a Forwarding Address card must be returned to the front desk prior to departure. First class mail will be forwarded starting on Monday, May 21, 2018.  No other mail will be forwarded; to arrange for forwarding of other mail, residents must contact vendors directly.
  4. Residents must arrange to have their room/suite/townhouse inspected by a residence hall staff member prior to departure, unless utilizing the Express Check-Out process.
  5. Residents will be billed for any deterioration in the condition of the room/suite/townhouse and/or its contents since move-in. Damage charges will be applied to the student’s College account.  Outstanding obligations will result in a hold on future registration and receipt of College transcripts, etc.  Residents choosing the Standard Check-Out option may appeal damage charges within 30 days of receipt of the damage bill by emailing reslife@oswego.edu.  Residents choosing the Express Check-Out option forfeit the right to appeal damage charges.  Residents who do not complete a Standard or Express Check-Out forfeit the right to appeal damage charges.
  6. Official Check-Out is completed when the resident’s ID card is “swiped” at the front desk.  Once the resident has officially checked out, s/he cannot reoccupy the room/suite/townhouse.
  7. All residence halls will be closed and secured at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 12, 2018.  Once the residence halls are closed, anyone attempting to enter or who enters without specific authorization is subject to arrest.
