Photo-archiving Rice Creek specimens

Jessica Kretschmann pursued a zoology major and photography minor at SUNY Oswego. Her photographs allow these specimens from the Rice Creek Field Station's collections to be available for study and appreciation. In the spring of 2014 she received a Rice Creek Small Grants Award that allowed her to continue this project through both a scientific and artistic lens.

Jessica studied four areas of specimens: nests, fur, feathers and bones. For each specimen, she generated both a scientific photograph as well as an abstracted interpretation. This duality allows us to appreciate the images from varying points of view. She pays clear attention to both the science and the pattern of each form.  Jessica plans to seek a career that allows her to combine her passion for wildlife conservation with photography.
