Harlequin duck display

This adult male Harlequin Duck was sighted in Oswego River on February 28, 2014 the near the hydroelectric dam in Oswego. During the next 10 days, many went looking and several saw the duck as it drifted along with the current and at times flew back to the rocky outcrops along the river's banks.

Mary and her son Mark were among those fortunate enough to observe the bird several times, including on March 9th when the duck died in the Oswego River. With some help, they retrieved the body from the river's edge. They brought it to Rice Creek Field Station because Mark wanted it to stay in Oswego. We are pleased to share this adult male Harlequin Duck with our visitors.

The display includes several photographs taken by Ed Hogan of the duck in the Oswego River.
