Work for NSO

The Orientation Student Staff are a team with a variety of responsibilities and titles. They are integral to the success of our Orientation programs and serve as the backbone of the student and guest experience while participating in Orientation. The students on our team have a myriad of experiences, backgrounds, majors, interests, passions, and hobbies - but they all share one thing in common: they love SUNY Oswego and want to share their excitement for our college with new, incoming students!

  • Laker Leaders* work directly with new students & parents. They facilitate the small group experience, lead ice breakers, perform in the Life on Campus skits, and more! Those Laker Leaders who work with parents support them in socials, information sessions, Current Student Panels, and other important and family activities.
  • Program Assistants* support and manage the logistics that create Orientation "magic!" The Program Assistant team (new for 2019) will be responsible for check-in, check-out, shuttles for new students and guests to/from Syracuse, Late Nite setup, and more! This is a great position for anyone interested in event management.
  • Office Staff play an integral behind-the-scenes role of Orientation; they make up our Customer Service team and help new students complete their requirements necessary before starting college.

All of our positions are rewarding, valued, and paid experiences. Many of our students find their time in Orientation to be when they grew the most both personally and professionally.

*You can apply for both the Laker Leader & Program Assistant positions at the same time! Please check the appropriate box on our online application to indicate your interest in applying to one, or both, of the positions. If you have questions, please contact Alyssa Steele at
