Summer Sophomore Orientation

SUNY Oswego knows that the student onboarding experience for our Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 new students was a challenge. While we connected with you in digitally and provided content to our new students by way of our Online Orientation program, missing out on the in-person connection resulting from the Covid 19 presented challenges to many of our newest Lakers.

We are thrilled to invite you to particpate in our Summer Sophomore Orientation program on July 28, 2021!

This program is an optional, one-day, in-person summer orientation experience designed to connect you with your peers and a returning student mentor, (re)introduce you to our campus, including academic buildings and residence halls, and share information about our many campus services that support student success.

Any rising sophomore who matriculated in Fall 2020 or Spring 2021 and completed the Online Orientation program is invited to attend the Sophomore Summer Orientation Program.

When is the Sophomore Summer Orientation Program?

You can attend the Sophomore Summer Orientation Program on Wednesday, July 28, 2021. Check-in begins at 7:30 am EST and the program ends by 5 pm EST.

Where is the Sophomore Summer Orientation Program taking place?

The program takes place on the SUNY Oswego main campus located at 7060 State Route 104, Oswego, NY 13126. Check-in information is emailed to participants beginning two weeks prior to their program date.

Is there a fee associated with attendance?

Attendance at this program does not cost any additional money. Students in attendance already paid an Orientation Fee the semester they matriculated. If you wish to use our additional services, such as Pre-Program Lodging or enjoy a dinner in our all-you-care-to-eat Dining Center the evening before the program, there are additional user fees.

  • Pre-Program Lodging: $50 per person

  • Pre-Program Dinner: $12 per person

Why should I attend this program?

This is an optional program designed for rising sophomores who feel they need a reintroduction to our campus community as we make the transition to fully in-person operations for the Fall 2021 semester. Students who want to feel more comfortable with the physical geography of campus, meet and connect with their peers, learn from returning student mentors, and receive information about campus services including health, wellness, diversity and inclusion, career services, student involvement, academic support services, experiential learning opportunities, and residence life and housing should strongly consider attending.

Are on-campus accommodations available?

We have limited, on-campus overnight accommodations in Riggs Hall for the evening before the Sophomore Summer Orientation Program (July 27) for students who wish to arrive the evening prior to their program date. Reservation of these accommodations is available on a first come, first serve basis. There is a $50 fee associated with use of these accommodations. The price of pre-program lodging is in addition to the Orientation Fee you paid in the semester you matriculated. Students can arrive between 5 and 10 pm EST to check-in to their overnight accommodations. Please note: we cannot provide accommodations to students following the conclusion of the program.

What transportation options exist for me to attend?

Students who are traveling to campus on Tuesday, July 27, to stay in their reserved, paid, on-campus accommodations are welcome to sign up for a seat on our shuttle service from the Syracuse Airport or Syracuse Regional Transportation Center. Due to Covid restrictions, shuttle seats are limited and available on a first come, first serve basis. There is no additional fee associated with this shuttle service.

The Office of New Student Orientation does not provide transportation to area hotels or other off-campus accommodations on the evening before the program or on the day of the Sophomore Summer Orientation Program. We provide return shuttle transportation to the Syracuse Airport or Syracuse Regional Transportation Center at 5 pm EST on July 28. Please note that our shuttle does not depart earlier than 5 pm EST. It takes approximately 1 hour to arrive at either location from campus.

If I arrive early, is there an on-campus dinner option available?

Yes! You may elect to purchase a dinner ticket for our all-you-care-to-eat buffet in the Lakeside Dining Center. You have the option to purchase this ticket ($12) at the time you reserve your space in the program. Dinner is available from 5 - 6 pm EST. The price of the ticket is in addition to the Orientation Fee you paid in the semester you matriculated.

After 6 pm EST, we are unable to provide any on-campus meal service, but we are happy to recommend local restaurant options.

Can family members or supporters attend?

To ensure we can maximize the opportunity for students to attend this program, family members and supporters are not invited to attend or participate in the Sophomore Summer Orientation Program. We encourage family members and supporters to take advantage of our virtual orientation experiences, listed on our website.
