Student Orientation Fees

A one-time Orientation fee is assigned to the the student account of each new student in the form of the costs outlined below. This fee cannot be reduced or waived. The fee is assigned to all students, regardless of attendance at an in-person Orientation Program or not. In addition to summer orientation in-person and virtual programs, this fee supports the August orientation experience and Opening Week social programs.

  • First Year Student Orientation Fee: $225
  • Transfer Student Orientation Fee: $115

For students who elect to use the Express Bus service, a $90 Express Bus rider fee will be assessed to your student account following your Orientation Express Bus trip. Students who no-show to the Express Bus will still be assessed the Orientation Express Bus fee. 

Family & Supporter Orientation Fees

Family members or supporters who elect to attend an in-person Orientation Program with their student are charged an Orientation Fee. This fee covers the cost of attendance at an in-person program including meals, coffee breaks, giveaways, and staffing. This fee is due prior to attendance at the program and can be paid at the time of registration or check-in. 

  • Family Members & Supporters Orientation Fee: $35 per person (over the age of 18)
  • Guest Express Bus Rider Fee: $125 (included $35 program fee + $90 Express Bus fee)

Additional Orientation Fees

Some of the services we offer are à la carte: if you wish to use the service, we are happy to provide it for the approproate fee. These fees are due at the time of registration, or upon check-in, unless otherwise noted. 

  • Pre-Program Lodging Fee: $50 per person* 
  • Dinner Ticket for Pre-Program Lodging: $12 per person
  • Express Bus Rider Fee: $90 per person 

*Because of the limited amount of Pre-Program Lodging accommodations we can provide, the Pre-Program Lodging Fee must be paid within 48 hours of registration to hold your pre-program lodging reservation. Requested pre-program lodging accommodations not paid within the 48 hour window will be cancelled and offer to the next interested party. 

Frequently Asked Questions regarding Orientation Fees

Student Fee Assessment & Removal

All new, incoming students are assessed the appropriate Orientation fee on their student bill.

Requests to remove the student Orientation fee from the bill will be considered in the following circumstances:

  • The student formally withdraws from the College prior to attending or completing an Orientation program
  • The student's admission to the College is rescinded prior to attending or completing an Orientation program

Requests to remove the student Orientation fee from the bill are not considered in the following circumstances:

  • The student formally withdraws from the College after attending or completing an Orientation program
  • The student's admission to the College is rescinded after attending or completing an Orientation program
  • The student elected not to attend or complete an Orientation program but matriculated for classes for the subsequent semester
  • The student did not formally withdraw from the College, did not attend or complete an Orientation program, and did not matriculate for classes for the subsequent semester

All other circumstances not listed are up to the discretion of the Coordinator of New Student Orientation.

Guest Fee Refunds

Guest refunds are considered, when requested, in the following circumstances:

  • A guest registers to attend an Orientation program but cancels their reservation prior to attending the scheduled program
  • The student the guest is registered to attend Orientation with has their admission to the College rescinded prior to attending the Orientation program

Guest refunds are not considered when:

  • A guest attended and participated in an Orientation program prior to the student formally withdrawing from the College, or prior to the student's admission to the College being rescinded
  • A guest does not cancel their Orientation program reservation prior to one business day before their scheduled Orientation program

All other circumstances not listed are up to the discretion of the Coordinator of New Student Orientation.

Assessment of User-Based Fees

When students or guests request user-based services, the College and our campus partners make provisions to provide that service. As such, students or guests who do not show up or use the following services are still required to pay for those services if notice is not provided 24 hours prior to the service being used. 

  • Pre-Program Lodging ($50 per person)*
  • Pre-Program Dinner Ticket ($12 per person)
  • Express Bus Fee ($125 per person for guests; $90 per person for students)

Exceptions can be made in the event of an emergency; exceptions can be requested for review by the Coordinator of New Student Orientation by emailing orient@oswego.edu

Refund Administration

It is the responsibility of the student and/or guest to request a refund. All requests must be received in writing. They can be emailed to orient@oswego.edu or mailed to:

All refund requests must include:

  • Student's full name and ID number (#805)
  • Reason for the refund request (ie, canceled parent Orientation reservation)
  • Address of the refund recipient

The refund process will be initiated within 3 business days of receipt of the written request. If the initial payment was made via credit card, the refund will be requested on your behalf. You can expect to see the refund on your credit card used for the original transaction within 3 - 4 weeks. If the initial payment was made via check or cash, the refund will be requested and a check will be mailed to you within 2 - 3 weeks.
