More than 500 alumni return for Reunion 2005

imageA taste of their favorite Oswego foods, a roaring bonfire at Fallbrook and a lakeside picnic were some of the experiences awaiting more than 530 Oswego State alumni who returned to campus for Reunion 2005, June 10 to 12.

In a new event for reunion weekend, alumni gathered to sample foods from some of their most-loved Oswego restaurants: Canale’s Restaurant, Rudy’s and the Oswego Sub Shop.

There were 53 classes represented at this year’s reunion, from the class of 1935 to the class of 2007. Alumni came from 26 states and one foreign country. Most alumni came from New York state, but many attended from Florida, Massachusetts and Virginia. The graduate coming from furthest away was Nikolett Kos, of the class of 1994, who traveled from Budapest, Hungary.

Two alumni received special awards during the reunion festivities. Chief District Court Judge William Reingold, who graduated in 1974, received the Lifetime Award of Merit, and Robert Natoli, a 1980 graduate, received the Anniversary Class Award.

Reingold, a Chief District Court Judge in the State of North Carolina, is widely respected for his expertise and pro bono work. He is recognized for his commitment to the community, his expertise in family law and his innovative ideas to address issues involving children, teens and families. He has helped establish new courts, including a juvenile drug court, truancy court and domestic violence advocacy court for abused spouses or partners who cannot afford legal representation.

Natoli is best known for the success of his first business venture, Rentavision. He built the business over 15 years into a 250-store nationwide success worth more than $98 million. After the sale of Rentavision, he began a second business, Cash America, which finances purchases at small furniture chains. A lifelong resident of Oswego, he is an active volunteer and philanthropist in the local community.

Next year’s reunion will take place June 9 to 11, 2006.
